Memorial Day – Remember and Be Thankful

We would like to wish you and your family a good Memorial Day. May we always remember and keep our hearts grateful for those who fought for our country.

Memorial Day imposes a duty on all Americans to remember fallen heroes and to pray that no heroes will ever have to die for us again. It’s a day of thanks for the valor of others, a day to remember the splendor of America and those of her children who rest now.

Giving Back to John Monaco for Decades of Service

The year 1943 seems like distant history for many, but for one member of the PDCA community, it was a life-changing year. John Monaco had just returned home from the army, and he was searching for the next phase of his life. He knew he needed to get set up with the right career and start to move in a positive direction.

After talking with his father, John decided to start working at the painting business his grandfather started in 1906, Beverly Painters & Decorating Inc., formerly known as Henry Monaco Painting. Despite being a third-generation contractor, John knew nothing about painting or business. He spent some time working with his father and learning the trade, then he turned to PDCA, which turned out to be one of the most valuable resources to start and maintain his career.

John spent years attending PDCA seminars and meetings, learning from industry leaders and making valuable connections. He found that other contractors always had the answers he was looking for and would offer any assistance they could provide.

The help he received from PDCA allowed him to be involved with his family business for many years, eventually taking over in the late 1970s.

John went on to help other contractors by being involved with local chapters and giving back to the community. He was the President of Westchester Chapter of PDCA on three different occasions in the 1980s.

Recently, John, who is now retired, needed the exterior of his home painted. He called Ray Rahni of Paint Track for an estimate. As a thank-you to John’s years of service, Ray organized a group of PDCA members to come complete the job free of charge.

The crew joined together, regardless of their company, for two days to complete the job. About 14 workers from various painting companies in the area, including Palette Pro Painting & Renovation. All volunteered together to paint the exterior of John’s home.

As the team finished the job, John was moved by the work everyone had done. This project is a testament to the extraordinary community that comes along with a PDCA membership. No matter how busy life can get, members of the community are always willing to come together to help out another member, like John.

At the beginning of his career, John found the answers and support he was looking for from PDCA. He later moved to become the giver and help other contractors in the association. Many years later, John is still seeing the tremendous benefits PDCA provides and the compassion of many members.

After all of his experience with the association, John Monaco said, “All you need in your tool case is PDCA.”

During the month of October in 2015, Palette Pro Painting and Renovation selected a family as the inaugural recipient of the first Painting Hope Project. As part of the project, Palette Pro Painting and Renovation donated its service to completely repaint a total of eight rooms in a tight, two-day time period.

Thanks in part to the assistance of a local paint supplier, Palette Pro received paint and supplies at no cost, including 25 gallons of ceiling and wall paint, as well as supplies to repaint the kitchen cabinets. To reduce the burden on the family, Palette Pro even booked a hotel room so the family could enjoy time together and not be disrupted.

The recipient of this showing of support had this to say about their experience, “We are so truly blessed and grateful to have received such a generous gift from your company. What you have done for my family is take away some of the grief. We can look around our home and know that we are thought of, we are cared about.”

Painting Hope - Palette Pro

Our home is our haven, our escape, our safe space. For someone battling with cancer having the chance to come home each day is already a gift. We have the ability to make that space even more welcoming, adorning it in a way that is beyond someone’s means but definitely inferior to their worth. The message is simple. It is about letting someone know their value, their place and significance even in the middle of a stifling experience.

Painting Hope was created with the mission to enrich lives of families affected by breast cancer. During the month of October, 2015, Palette Pro Painting & Renovation selected a family in Norwalk, CT as the recipient of their first Painting Hope Project. As part of the Painting Hope Project, Palette Pro Painting & Renovation donated its services including all the material to completely repaint a total of eight rooms in a period of two days. The residence, built in 1983, had not been painted for at least 10 years, and the conditions of the substrate were very poor and in desperate need of attention. Palette Pro had to repair many areas with new drywall, patch, scuff sand all surfaces completely, and in some bathrooms even apply a mold killer/remover due to mold presence on ceilings and walls. They also completely removed all kitchen cabinet doors and hardware as part of the refinishing process. All cabinets were sanded, primed, and finish with two top coats of Benjamin Moore Advance Satin.

After learning the recipient’s story, Palette Pro was moved to go above and beyond to transform their home and make it beautiful once again. They contacted their local supplier, Wallauer’s Design Center and were able to acquire all the paint and supplies at no cost to perform the project. All primers and sundries were also donated to complete the project. This included 25 gallons of Benjamin Moore Regal Select & Ben for walls and ceiling, and Advance for all woodwork and kitchen cabinets. The family also meet with our color consultant, Christine Wetzel, who also donated her time assisting with paint color selection. Palette Pro also booked a night at a hotel for the family to enjoy time together and not be disrupted while the work was being done.

Palette Pro’s community goal is to spread the word and encourage other painting companies to embrace Painting Hope, and make a difference in their community during Breast Cancer Awareness month.
